Abstract:

The proliferation of computer networks, the popularization of the World Wide Web and the increasing availability of digital intellectual goods present firms that produce and distribute intellectual goods with a unique set of opportunities and threats. We propose and explicate three different conceptual models that focus on the experiential, legal and organizational aspects of digital intellectual goods. These models highlight salient features of the digital revolution and facilitate strategic assessment and response. We discuss different strategic responses suggested by these models.
