Nurse Comfort. . . More than Helpful Hands

Heard, P. L., Hartman, S., Beal, B. D., & Bushardt, S. C. 2014. Nursing comfort. . . more than helpful hands. Nursing Management, 45(4): 30-35. [PDF, journal]

Abstract:

This article reviews the literature on nurse comfort and suggests that it may be useful in combating nurse burnout. Although the concept of comfort has been examined from a patient perspective, and has typically been addressed in the context of care responsibilities, the parallel concept of nurse comfort has recently begun to receive scholarly attention. We review and assess efforts to develop the concept of nurse comfort and suggest how it might be utilized in practice to mitigate the harmful effects of nurse burnout.
